Photos Can Help Your Fundraising!

Photos Can Help Your Fundraising!

The best camera you have is the one in your hand” – Sarah Eddy

GlobalGiving had the pleasure of hosting the “Photography for Digital +Social Communications” webinar with guest speaker Sarah Eddy. Sarah is a multimedia specialist with experience working for the government, nonprofit, and private sectors.

With the Seventh Annual GlobalGiving Photo Contest starting July 18th, we feel it is important to show our nonprofit partners how great photos can positively impact your organization’s mission and help with your fundraising. With the popularity of social media, there is limited time to capture the attention of viewers. Over 50% of individuals remember information when it’s paired with a relevant image and content with images receive more views than those without images. Sarah shared her insight on how to attract and maintain the attention of supporters through the use of good photography.

The 2015 Photo Contest

The 2015 Photo Contest

Summertime is coming to DC! We are ready to sit back, relax, and vote for our favorite photos!

It’s Photo Contest time! A photo speaks volumes about your work and it captures the essence of what you do and why you do it. A powerful photo engages an audience and shows them in a matter of seconds all the amazing work that you do.

Want to see how powerful your project photo can be? Check out your project page analytics to see how many seconds  your donors are spending on your page. Psst…the average is only 4.2 seconds! With so little time, a great photo can make all the difference.

To promote your amazingly powerful photos, GlobalGiving is hosting its sixth annual Photo Contest. We can’t stop smiling when thinking about your photo submissions! Read on for more information.

How to submit your photos:

  1. Upload your organization’s photo submission to your project page by July 8th, 11:59 pm EDT.  Learn how to upload a photo to your project page here.
  2. Save and submit your project page changes. It will take GlobalGiving staff one to two business days to approve your changes.
  3. Once your project is approved, please submit your photo’s URL to the Photo Contest. You can find your photo’s unique URL by clicking on the desired photo in your project’s photo gallery and copying the photo’s URL. See the screen-steps here.
  4. Submit your photo’s URL to the Photo Contest entry form here by July 10th 11:59pm EDT

Photo Contest Terms and Conditions:

  • The photo contest submission deadline is 11:59 pm EDT on July 10, 2015. All Photo Contest submission forms must be submitted by this date.

Mobilizing Votes for the Photo Contest

Mobilizing Votes for the Photo Contest

A big thank you to all the organizations that submitted photos to GlobalGiving’s Photo Contest! Our outside judge, Bud Force  is currently choosing the finalists; we can’t wait to see the results!

Katie Meyler from More than Me Foundation  (the winner of GlobalGiving’s past two Photo Contests) hosted an insightful and energetic webinar on July 18, 2012.  Katie shared tips on getting supporters excited to vote for your photos.

If you weren’t able to attend the webinar you can find some of Katie’s tips below.

Mobilizing Voters

  • Think outside of the box! Instead of solely using e-mail to contact prior supporters build your network by getting potential supporters involved in person.  Go to a coffee shop with your lap top and ask people to vote right then and there.
  • Identify enthusiastic staff members or volunteers who feel comfortable talking to potential supporters and getting them to vote for your project’s photo. This is a great volunteer opportunity!
  • Use social media.  Even though voting will not take place on Facebook, you can still send your Facebook connections the link to the Photo Contest on the GlobalGiving site.

Finalists will be notified by July 30, 2012! Get excited to mobilize!

Get Ready for GlobalGiving’s 2012 Photo Contest!

Get Ready for GlobalGiving’s 2012 Photo Contest!

One of the first steps to a strong project page is a powerful photo. Photos are often the first thing donors see when they’re searching for projects to support. They help donors understand your organization and community in ways that cannot be explained in words. Take advantage of this opportunity to share your work.
To promote the best photos of our partners, GlobalGiving is hosting our third annual photo contest! As in the past, you will need to submit your photo on your project page, let us know which photos you want to submit for the contest, and then your donors will vote. This is a fantastic opportunity to engage your donors  and maybe get some new supporters without asking for funds!

How to Submit your Photos:

1. Upload your photos to your project page by July 18, 2012 at 11:59pm. Find out how to upload a photo here. Each organization may submit up to 3 photos total for the competition

2. Find your photo’s web address. Here’s how you do that.

3. Submit the web addresses of your photos in this entry form

You must submit the entry form no later than July 20th at 11:59pm ET!

Photo Contest Rules:

  • Each organization may submit up to three photos total. These can all be from the same project or from two or three different projects, but they must be related to your project on GlobalGiving.
  • An independent judge will select 15 finalists each from five categories based on the theme of your project. Your photos will be automatically placed in a category based on the primary theme of the project your photo is from at the time your entry form is submitted. These categories and the themes included in each will be:
    • Give Knowledge
    • Give Relief
    • Give Support
    • Give Hope
    • Give Green
  • The 75 finalist photos (15 finalists each from five categories) will be uploaded for voting on the GlobalGiving website starting August 1. In previous years the contest has been hosted on Facebook. Because of new Facebook rules regulating contest, we are moving the voting to the GlobalGiving.org site this year.
  •  Voting takes place from August 1, 2012 at noon EDT until August 15, 2012 at noon EDT.
  • Only organizations that have active projects on www.globalgiving.org (not globalgiving.uk or any of our corporate sites) may participate.

Want to learn about donor mobilization? Then join us for a webinar hosted by the winner of both of our previous photo contest, Katie Meyler of More than Me Foundation. She won last year’s photo contest with an astounding 1,200 votes. She is going to share her tips and tools for mobilizing your existing donor network!

• Date: July 18th, 2012
• Time: 9am EDT or 3pm EDT
• Link: www.anymeeting.com/globalgiving1

Prizes:

  • The one photo with the most votes overall at noon EDT on August 15 will be awarded a $1,000 bonus to support the organization’s work and will be featured on the GlobalGiving homepage for a full day!
  • One runner-up from each of the remaining categories will each be featured for a full day on the GlobalGiving homepage and will be highlighted though GlobalGiving’s social media outreach.
