Several years ago, GlobalGiving launched project appeals, an email tool for nonprofits to reach all their projects’ donors. While we learned that appeals are effective fundraising tools, we also learned the restrictions we placed were too tight—nonprofits could only send appeals twice a year.
That’s why we’re so excited to announce that you can now send unlimited project appeals! While they are still subject to the 1-3 days’ review period, we’re excited to help your organization raise more money than ever using this tool.
We removed the limitations mid-March as a test, and have been blown away by the results: In 2019 alone,you’ve raised nearly $20,000 for earth-changing work using project appeals. That’s almost as much as project appeals have raised from 2016-2018 combined.
But we aren’t done yet: We’re now launching segmentation for project appeals. Now, if you log into your dashboard, you’ll see three segments available for sending project appeals:
Here’s how those segments are defined.
Active Monthly Donors: Donors with an active recurring donation to one of your projects. If a donor has a recurring donation but has also given one-time gifts to your organization, they will be in this segment.
One-time Donors who have given less than $100: Donors without an active recurring donation. The sum of their donations to your organization—whether they’ve given once or five times—totals less than $100 USD.
One-time Donors who have given $100 or more: Also donors without an active recurring donation. The sum of their donations to your organization totals more than $100 USD.
When sending an appeal, you can choose one of these segments, all three, or everyone subscribed to your project’s updates!
It’s important to remember that these numbers won’t total the exact number of donations your organization has on GlobalGiving. People may have unsubscribed to your project reports at some point, in which case they are also unsubscribed from appeals.
