According to the United Nations, 1 in every 9 people go to bed hungry. Millions are living on the brink of starvation across East Africa, Yemen, and north-east Nigeria. Reaching #ZeroHunger is possible and could save millions of lives each year.
Our partners are responding to food insecurity through emergency feeding programs in South Sudan, mobile applications for farmers in Guatemala, and everything in between. GlobalGiving is committed to standing with our nonprofit community and supporting the efforts of these organizations around the world with a focus on the famines in Africa.
That is why for World Food Day on Monday, October 16th, 2017, from 9:00:01am EDT to 11:59:59pm EDT, GlobalGiving is putting up $20,000 in matching funds and $2,000 in bonus prizes for our nonprofit partners responding to the drought in Africa. Eligible projects must be tagged for the “Africa Drought and Famine Fund” on GlobalGiving and approved by GlobalGiving staff as supporting drought or famine relief in South Sudan, Yemen, Somalia, Ethiopia, Kenya, or north-east Nigeria.
