GlobalGiving’s Fees Drop To As Low As 5%!

GlobalGiving is thrilled to announce that beginning on Sunday, October 1st, we’re reducing our fee on all retail donations processed on GlobalGiving.org. We’re dropping fees to as low as 5%, while still providing you the same high quality programs and services!

What Does this Mean for You?

  • If your organization is registered in the US or the UK, GlobalGiving will retain a 5% nonprofit support fee (+ 3% third party processing fee).
  • If your organization is registered outside the US or the UK, GlobalGiving will retain a 7% nonprofit support fee (+ 3% third party processing fee).

The new fee structure will apply to most online donations (credit and debit card, PayPal, and Apple Pay), checks, and wire transfers (see full details below). This new, reduced fee is permanent and will be good during all future current nonprofit partner campaigns!

How Did We Get Here?

Your feedback is important to us and over the years, we have heard, loud and clear, an interest in a reduced fee. Based on this, we spent the past year creating, and testing a new pricing model to ensure that you, our nonprofit partners, receive the same high-touch programs and services while also being able to better take advantage of fundraising on the GlobalGiving platform.

After a year’s worth of research, surveys, focus groups, and pilot testing, we are confident that this new model will both enable us to continue to grow our offerings while helping you to:

  • enhance your communications with your donors, board members, colleagues, and other key stakeholders;
  • conduct more of your fundraising on GlobalGiving; and, most importantly,
  • raise more funds to send directly to the programs that your organization runs thereby increasing your impact!

When Does the New Fee Start?

All GlobalGiving nonprofit partners that were a Partner, Leader, or Superstar prior to Sunday, October 1st will automatically receive the new, reduced fee starting at 12:00:01 am EDT on October 1st, 2017. Organizations that join GlobalGiving on or after October 1st, 2017 will qualify for the new, reduced fee after raising at least $5,000 on GlobalGiving.org.

What Is the Difference between the Nonprofit Support and Processing Fees?

The “nonprofit support fee” refers to the costs associated with maintaining GlobalGiving’s many high-touch programs and services that ultimately drive more funding to our partners, in addition to the costs associated with keeping GlobalGiving running. The “processing fee” refers to third party credit card, check processing, wire transfer fees, and other transaction costs charged by banking systems.

Will Your Donors Experience Changes?

Your donors’ experience on GlobalGiving will remain largely unchanged. While making a contribution, donors will be offered the opportunity to make an optional donation to GlobalGiving in the same way that they were previously invited to add on to their donation to cover your fees. The core difference here will be that donations made to GlobalGiving will not further reduce your fees but will instead support GlobalGiving’s efforts to provide you with high-quality programs, services, and fundraising opportunities. We will continue to drive additional funding to your organization through matching funds, gift cards, corporate giving programs, and provide other support your organization along with opportunities improve your effectiveness.

How Should You Communicate this Change to Your Stakeholders?

Feel free to share the news about the new, reduced fee anytime! We know that fundraising on GlobalGiving is just one of the many activities your organization is handling, so we want to make any communication about the fee reduction as easy as possible. That’s why we drafted a sample email and one page handout for you to use when discussing your GlobalGiving partnership with your staff, board members, and other supporters.

We hope that you’re as excited about this new fee as we are! Check out more details about GlobalGiving’s new, reduced fee. And, as always, feel free to reach out to us with any questions or comments you may have. We are happy to help!
