Drum roll please… Announcing the 2017 Video Contest Winners!

Here at GlobalGiving we believe in the power of stories. And, in today’s digital world, it is more important than ever for nonprofits to be able to both tell and show their stories.

This year the GlobalGiving Video Contest received a record-setting 112 entries! We were thrilled to see your use of this important medium and it was extremely difficult to choose the top five entries — but here we go!

The 2017 grand prize winner for GlobalGiving’s Sixth Annual Video Contest is The Sweethearts Foundation, an incredible nonprofit based in South Africa which provides wheelchairs to men, women, and children in need. Want to find out how they do it? You’ll have to watch their video!

This year, our friends at the Social Impact Media Awards (SIMA) judged the top entries. SIMA is a nonprofit that celebrates social-documentary storytelling of excellence, screens films in communities and  classrooms worldwide, and connects international audiences and organizations  with the best global impact cinema.

Here’s what our judges at SIMA had to say about The Sweetheart Foundation’s video:

The Sweethearts Foundation – Help Gift Disabled South Africans a Wheelchair is an exceptional fundraising piece that puts the viewer at the center of the story, prompting them to engage and act on an emotional level. The video beautifully informs the viewer about the project with unwavering transparency, while at the same time capturing the project recipients with dignity and heartfelt integrity.”

 

Here are SIMA’s picks for the top four runner ups:

Women Win Foundation: This one minute animated video touches on the dark topic of gender-based violence in a powerfully creative and moving way.  

The Freedom Story: Experience the scenes of Thailand in this quick video and learn how this organization is preventing child trafficking and exploitation. Excellent editing, good use of voice over, and very pertinent information. 

Mariposa DR Foundation: Hablas español? Here is a creative video that is sure to resonate with the millennials out there. #YoNoSoyTuMamacita. 

Breakthrough Trust: This impressive three minute video plays like a Bollywood film and has a strong message for valuing girls in the north Indian state of Haryana.
