Get Ready for the 2016 Photo Contest!

Get Ready for the 2016 Photo Contest!

It’s that time of year again! GlobalGiving’s 7th Annual Photo Contest will be held this summer, so get ready to submit and vote for your favorite photos! We are excited to provide you the opportunity to engage your current supporters; spruce up your project pages with up-to-date, quality photos; and compete for exciting Bonus Prizes! So, how can you participate?

Step 1: Add your photos to project page(s) by June 24th

Any photo that you would like to submit to the 2016 Photo Contest, must be a photo that is already on your project page when you complete the submission form. Upload any new photos to your project page by Friday, June 24th, 23:59:59 EDT in order to have them approved by June 29th. Once the photos that you would like to submit to the 2016 Photo Contest have been approved by GlobalGiving, you can complete this submission form.

Step 2: Submit your photos by June 29th

Organizations are able to submit up to 3 photos. Organizations should not submit one form per photo—instead, each organization is allowed one submission form that can contain up to 3 photos.

Though organizations are able to submit up to 3 photos, organizations are only able to have 1 photo as a finalist in the voting period. No organizations will have multiple photos in the voting period.

In the submission form, you will be asked to include the URL of the photo that you would like to include. You can find your photo’s unique URL by clicking on the photos tab of your project page and clicking on the desired photo. Then, copy and past the photo’s URL into the form. Submission forms must be completed by Wednesday, June 29th at 23:59 EDT.

Step 3: Mobilize your supporters to vote from July 18th – July 22nd

Once all photos have been submitted, an outside judge will select 15 finalists per category. There will be  5 categories of photos. Should one of your organization’s photos be selected as a finalist, your job is to reach out to your supporters to encourage them to cast a vote for your photo!

The voting period will begin on Monday, July 18th at 12:00:01 EST and end on Friday, July 22nd at 12:00:01 EST. All individuals that vote for your photo will also be signed up to receive that project’s reports via GlobalGiving.

Prize Structure:

  • The 1 organization with the photo that receives the most votes, across all categories, between Monday, June 18th at 12:00:01 EST and Friday, July 22nd at 12:00:01 EST, will be awarded a $1,000 prize to support the organization’s project. The project will also be featured on the GlobalGiving homepage for a full day and highlighted through GlobalGiving’s social media outreach.
  • The 5 organizations with the top photos in each category, excluding the overall finisher, will each be featured for a full day on the GlobalGiving homepage and will be highlighted using GlobalGiving’s social media outreach.

Criteria for each Theme

Your photo will be placed into the category based on the primary theme of the project for which the photo was submitted. For example, if I choose to submit a photo from one of my projects that has the primary theme of Sport, this photo will fall into the Give Hope Category.

Organizations may submit photos from different projects and these projects can have different primary themes. Keep in mind however, that organizations are only able to have one photo in the final voting round. It will not be possible for an organization to have photos in multiple categories in the voting round.

There will be 15 finalists in each of the 5 categories. The categories for the voting round will be determined by the following criteria:

  • Give Knowledge
    • Projects on GlobalGiving.org with a primary theme of:
      • Education

    • Each vote must be confirmed via email. Once a vote has been made, the voter will receive an email from GlobalGiving to confirm his or her vote. Only upon confirmation will that vote be counted.
    • An individual may vote for as many photos as he or she wishes, but only one vote per photo will count. For example, if I vote for the same photo five times, only one of my votes for that photo will count.
  • Any activity not in the spirit of having unique individuals vote will not be counted towards vote totals and will disqualify an organization from winning any of the prizes.
  • GlobalGiving will be monitoring all voting activity and will cross match email addresses, names, countries, and IP addresses to determine the validity of all voters. Votes that are deemed fraudulent will be removed and may disqualify the organization from winning any prizes.
  • The organization with the one photo that has the most votes overall at noon EST on July 22, 2016, will be awarded a $1,000 bonus to be used to support the organization’s project. Please note: The Bonus Prize is not secured until the organization receives a confirmation from GlobalGiving.
  • The organization with the photo that has the most votes in each category, excluding the overall winner, will each be featured for a full day on the GlobalGiving homepage and will be highlighted through GlobalGiving’s social media outreach. Please note: These prizes are not secured until the organizations receive a confirmation from GlobalGiving.

Dear GG, I noticed that step 3 says mobilize your voters to vote between June 18th to July 22nd, yet the dude date for the photos is not until June 24th. Towards the bottom it says that "Voting will take place from noon to EST from July 18 to July 22. Please clarify. Thank you!

Hi, the link on the submission form that tells you how to find the unique URL for each photo isn't working! Also, if we have a photo that pops up in our photos on our project page, but is actually from a project report, can we use that photo? Or do we need to upload it to our project as well? Won't that just may it seem like a replica when the photo section drops down? Thanks!

Hi Pam! Thank you for your question! Yes, you can use photos from your report as well as the project page.
