Join YouthSpark initiative by Microsoft today!

We are happy to share exciting news with you today!  As a GlobalGiving partner, you may be eligible to take part in Microsoft’s YouthSpark initiative on GlobalGiving.org. Being part of this initiative means that your eligible projects will receive a special designation and be included in periodic promotional and matching campaigns.

YouthSpark is a Microsoft program, launched in September 2012, to create opportunities for 300 million youths around the world. The program empowers youth to imagine and realize their full potential by connecting them with greater opportunities in education, employment, and entrepreneurship; helping create a real impact for a better tomorrow.

For the past year GlobalGiving has partnered with Microsoft to power GiveforYouth.org, a micro-giving site specifically focused on youth. Since our partnership began in September 2012, Microsoft has generously provided ~$1 million in matching funds through Give for Youth impacting more than 35,000 youth. For example, GlobalGiving’s partner Leadership Initiatives joined GiveforYouth.org in February 2013.  To date they have raised $200,000 through the platform by posting 34 projects and microprojects and actively participating in matching opportunities on GiveforYouth.org.

Later this year, GiveForYouth.org will be migrating into a program run within GlobalGiving.org rather than a stand-alone website in order to support more youth-focused nonprofits and improve our ability to reach more donors interested in supporting youth around the world.

Previously, only a small number of nonprofits were eligible to be included in this program. Now we are expanding the opportunity to more eligible GlobalGiving partners! To be part of this exciting initiative, your organization must:

  • Work with youths between the ages of 6-24 in the areas of education, job training or entrepreneurship AND
  • Qualify as a Leader or Superstar on GlobalGiving.

If your work meets the first criteria you must fill out the “Eligibility for Microsoft YouthSpark” in the Project Entry System by November 8th to have your project reviewed for inclusion by GlobalGiving staff.     For detailed instructions, please see below.

1. To fill out the section, click “edit project” and go to Tab 1.  If you scroll down, you will see a new field that asks you whether you are eligible for GiveforYouth.org.  Answer “Yes”.

2. Enter the number of unique youths are benefitting from your project.

Eligibility

After you have completed these two steps, you will see that our system calculate dollars per youth in the space below.  This is calculated by taking your requested funding amount dividing by the number of unique youths.

Organizations opting in by November 8th  that are determined eligible by GlobalGiving staff will be able to participate in Microsoft’s #givingtuesday matching campaign with $250,000 in matching available to YouthSpark partners.

We encourage you to complete this section for relevant projects even if your organization is not yet at the Leader or Superstar level.  If your Partner Rewards Level changes to “Leader” your eligible projects will automatically be included in YouthSpark.

To learn more about participating in Youthspark initiative, sign up to attend a webinar on October 31st from here.  In the meantime, please email (giveforyouth@globalgiving.org) for any questions.
